An 8‑inch cable tie is a self‑locking fastening strip, usually made of nylon (or sometimes other plastics, or even stainless steel) used to bundle, secure, or organize cables, wires, hoses, or other slender objects.

It consists of a long, flexible strap with serrated teeth on one side, and a head (or locking mechanism) at one end. The tail end is inserted into the head; the internal pawl engages with the serrations to lock the tie at a chosen length, preventing it from loosening.

Common uses include wiring harnesses, electrical conduit, securing cables in racks, bundling hoses, organizing items in enclosures, and many general-purpose fastening tasks.

They are one-time use (i.e. once locked, you generally cut them off to remove), although reusable designs exist.

They come in various materials (nylon 6/6, UV‑stabilized nylon, cable tie variants with flame resistance, stainless steel, etc.) to suit different environments (indoor, outdoor, high temp, chemical exposure).
