A 2.5‑ton RunTru heat pump condenser is the outdoor portion of a heat pump system rated to move about 30,000 BTU/hr of heating or cooling capacity. “RunTru” is a value-oriented brand by Trane. These condensers are used in residential settings, paired with an indoor coil or air handler, to provide both heating and cooling.
Function: In cooling mode, the condenser rejects heat from inside the house to the outside; in heating mode, it extracts heat from outdoor air (depending on ambient temp) and transfers it inside via the indoor unit.
Refrigerant: Many of the newer units use R‑410A; newer/upcoming models may use low‑GWP alternatives (R‑454B, etc.).
Efficiency Ratings: Expressed in SEER2 for cooling, and HSPF2 for heating (in heating mode). These measure how much cooling/heating per unit of electrical input.
Noise Levels: These units typically make between ~70‑75 decibels under normal operation.
Components: Includes scroll or rotary compressor, condenser coil, condenser fan, refrigerant lines, safety controls (high/low pressure switch), etc.
